The National Railroad Museum®does not permit the use of comfort animals. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act support, therapy, comfort or companion animals do not fall under the guidelines of a service animal as these animals must be trained to perform a specific job or task.
Per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Museum does permit service animals that are recognized by the ADA. A service animal is a dog or small horse that has been trained to perform a specific job or task. Following the guidelines, if you are visiting the Museum with a service dog, you must always remain in compliance, including:
All service animals must be harnessed, tethered, or leashed, unless it prohibits the animal from being able to provide the service the animal was trained to provide.
All service animals must be housebroken.
Has received and is current on all vaccinations required for the health and safety of the animal and the public.
The National Railroad Museum® will request removal of any service animal that is disruptive to other patrons, is not housebroken, and/or is out of control as defined by ADA guidelines.
Museum staff also reserves the right to ask if the animal is required because of a disability and what task the dog has been trained to perform.
