For more than 70 years, the National Railroad Museum has worked to preserve the stories and legacy of the railroad while creating meaningful experiences for visitors of all ages. Along the way, our efforts have been recognized by local, regional, and national organizations for excellence in preservation, education, tourism, and community engagement.
These honors celebrate not only the museum’s achievements but also the passion and generosity of the volunteers, members, donors, and supporters who continue to move our mission forward.
Mayor’s Beautification Award
The Mayor’s Beautification Awards are an annual celebration recognizing individuals, businesses, and organizations that enhance the beauty of the City of Green Bay.
Best of the Bay
The National Railroad Museum was honored to be selected as a finalist in the Best Museum and Best Family Amusement categories in the 2024 Best of the Bay.
432nd Civil Affairs Battalion Certificate of Appreciation
In 2023, the museum was happy to support the 432nd Civil Affairs Battalion with an event space for their mobilization ceremony and received this certificate in appreciation for our support.
Heritage Rail Alliance Significant Achievement Award – Passenger Car
In 2022, the museum received the Significant Achievement Award for the restoration of the Chicago & North Western Joseph Lister Hospital Car from the Heritage Rail Alliance. This award is given to recognize the best of railway preservation.
Heritage Rail Alliance Significant Achievement Award – Passenger Car
In 2019, the museum received the Significant Achievement Award for the restoration of the Atlantic Coast Line Dothan Dining Car from the Heritage Rail Alliance. This award is given to recognize the best of railway preservation.
Bay-Lakes Council Voyageur District Community Partner of the Year
In 2017, the museum received the Community Partner of the Year award from the Bay-Lakes Council: Voyageur District of Scouting America.
Governor’s Certificate of Commendation Honoring the Museum’s 60th Anniversary
The Museum received a Certificate of Commendation from Governor Scott Walker recognizing its 60th Anniversary on July 19, 2016.
Trainfest
Put on by the National Model Railroad Association, the National Railroad Museum received a First Place-Display award at the 2015 Trainfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Trainfest is the largest operating model railroad show in America.
Brown County Historical Society Historic Preservation Award
Awarded by the Brown County Historical Society, the National Railroad Museum received the 2014 Historic Preservation Award for the preservation of our Dwight D. Eisenhower A4 locomotive.
State of Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Year of the Veteran Certificate of Recognition
The Museum received a Certificate of Recognition from the State of Wisconsin and Governor Scott Walker in 2012 due to our partnership in Operation Greatest Generation, a tribute to Wisconsin’s World War II veterans.
