Girl’s STEM Leadership Camp at the National Railroad Museum

The National Railroad Museum is proud to introduce a Girl’s STEM Leadership Day Camp, designed to inspire young women ages 9–13 through hands-on learning focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This unique STEM camp for girls explores the fascinating world of trains while encouraging curiosity, creativity, and confidence in future innovators.
Although women represent nearly 50% of the overall workforce, only about 25% of STEM careers are currently held by women. As part of our mission to provide engaging and meaningful educational experiences, this girls STEM camp is designed to help close that gap by introducing participants to real-world STEM concepts in a supportive and inspiring environment.
Learn STEM Through Trains
At this interactive youth STEM camp, participants will explore the science and engineering behind trains while discovering how technology and innovation shape the transportation industry. Campers will learn about:
- The science and mechanics behind trains
- The history and evolution of rail transportation
- The future of sustainable transportation
- How engineers are working to make trains more environmentally friendly
Through hands-on activities and collaborative learning, campers will gain practical STEM knowledge while developing leadership and problem-solving skills.
Camp Schedule
This 3-day STEM camp for girls takes place from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. each day.
- Check-in: 8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

Why STEM Camps for Girls Matter
Girls remain underrepresented in many careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Programs like the Girls’ STEM Leadership Camp at the National Railroad Museum help bridge that gap by giving young women the opportunity to explore STEM subjects in a welcoming and engaging environment.
Through hands-on learning, teamwork, and creative problem solving, campers build confidence while discovering how STEM fields shape the world around us. At the Museum, trains provide the perfect real-world example of how engineering, environmental science, technology, and innovation work together to power modern transportation.
Our Girls’ STEM Leadership Camp is part of the Museum’s broader commitment to hands-on education and youth learning opportunities. Families interested in additional educational programming can also explore our other offerings, including:
- Railroad STEM Programs – interactive educational programs that connect railroad history with science and engineering concepts.
- Youth Camps and Educational Programs – hands-on learning opportunities designed to inspire curiosity and creativity in young learners.
- Educational Field Trips – school and group programs that bring history, science, and transportation technology to life.
Located in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the National Railroad Museum offers unique educational experiences where students can learn directly from historic locomotives, rail equipment, and real-world transportation technology.
By connecting STEM concepts with the fascinating world of railroads, this camp helps young women discover new interests, explore future careers, and gain confidence as the next generation of innovators and leaders.
